In 2011, Bradken’s strategic planning process
identified a developing need for a new office and
laboratory facility capable of promoting innovative,
technological and collaborative thinking which
is integral to the work undertaken by Bradken.
There was also a strong desire by Management
to bring all staff back under one roof, as years of
high growth had led to the need for two facilities
operating in Newcastle remotely from one another.
A greenfield site was selected and a high-
technology, purpose-built office and laboratory
facility was designed to house our 200 strong
workforce. Management believed that it was
important to involve as many employees as
possible by providing the opportunity to contribute
to the alignment of the building’s amenity with
Bradken’s culture and staff needs. Focus groups
were conducted on all key aspects of the building,
which became a team effort in design.
The building layout was designed to provide each
of our businesses with an area in which to focus on
the design and development of their core products
and services around a central foyer and shared
testing facilities. This was identified as ideal for
enabling and promoting effective communication
between our businesses.
Constructed on the 1.3ha site at the Steel River
Eco-Industrial Estate at Mayfield West, near
Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, the
facility features four laboratory spaces, testing
facilities, open plan offices, meeting rooms and
common areas, all contained in a two storey
environmentally friendly building.
From a Product Development perspective,
Bradken is currently developing new capabilities in
the “technology centre” that will be managed by a
specialised technical team. The centre will enable
Product Development Teams to undertake full-scale
product evaluations and equipment fit ups, as well
as onsite designing, prototyping and testing to
expedite new products to market. This facility is
world class and supports our staff’s commitment
to align their work practices with our culture,
values and vision for the future of the Company.
Bradken’s new state-of-the-art Global Corporate
Centre (GCC) was opened by Bradken’s
Chairman, the Hon. Nick Greiner AC on Tuesday,
19 March 2013.
