When I first got the tap on the shoulder to join the Austrade Mining Mission to Kazakhstan, I have to admit
I didn’t even know where the country was. I was pretty sure that, as one of the “Stans”, Kazakhstan was
somewhere in the former Soviet Union, that relic of the world we knew before Glasnost brought down the Berlin
Wall. So it was with some trepidation Jeff Seymour and I accepted Enda Sheridan’s generous offer to make our
way to a country no-one from Bradken had visited in an official capacity before.
