On Sunday 28 August, a
small team of employees from
Bradken’s Henderson facility
took part in the Chevron City
to Surf for Activ ‘fun run’.
The event, known as the
largest community sporting
event in Western Australia,
took over 40,000 registered
competitors from Perth’s
CBD to City Beach across
six different race categories.
Pattern Coordinator at
Henderson and keen runner,
Craig Walker made a last
minute decision to take part
in the event and gathered
colleagues Renee Cullen and
Alyce Piromalli to join him.
Competing in the 42km
Marathon category, while
Renee and Alyce took
on the 12km run, Craig
said the event was an
opportunity to build morale
and inspire teamwork
amongst his workmates
but it also represented a
personal challenge for each
of the team members.
“The marathon was brutal, the
hardest challenge I have ever
taken part in,” Craig said.
“Both girls were very
pleased with their
performance and are already
in training for 2012.”
Manufacturing Manager
at Henderson, James
Dougall was in full support
of the team’s participation,
providing “Bradken
Corporate Team” shirts to be
worn for the event. He said
that encouraging the interest
of the team in taking part in
this event not only reinforced
Bradken’s promotion of
work life balance but also
the Company’s interest in
the health and wellbeing
of its employees.
“It just puts a smile on
people’s faces to see this
sort of thing happening and
being supported by the
Company. Hopefully we can
get a few more enthusiastic
participants involved
next year,” James said.
All team members received
medallions commemorating
their participation.

WORK LIFE BALANCE
AT HENDERSON

There is more to life than work. At Bradken, we
recognise that a happy and successful work life
must be balanced by an employee’s family,
friends and community interactions. For this
reason, Bradken values employees’
commitments and interests outside the
workplace as much as we value success at work.
