And so, in March 2011 Bradken approved
a $1.3 million capital investment to install
a heat treatment and quench tank facility
at the site.
With an anticipated increase in output of
5,000 tonnes of castings per annum by
2015, comprising both the production
of Bradken consumable products and
additional opportunities captured in
the region as a result of the increased
capability of the site, the installation of the
heat treatment facility brings a number of
benefits to the foundry including the ability
to manufacture new high quality products
in compliance with Original Equipment
Manufacturer (OEM) requirements.
Anthony Rowett, General Manager for
Bradken in Europe, said that Bradken’s
investment has changed the production
andworkplace environment at Scunthorpe
for the better.
“The installation of a world class heat
treatment facility has transformed
the operational characteristics of the
Scunthorpe plant on a number of levels
with improvements to safety, product
flow, cost and quality,” Anthony said.
“This situation is particularly pleasing
for the workforce here, who view
this investment as key to ensuring a
sustainable future for the foundry.”
“This along with other initiatives currently
taking place, including the installation
of an induction hardener, has allowed
Bradken’s European business to adjust
its profile in the region as promoting,
manufacturing and selling a large range
of Bradken’s consumable products.”
Quotations for a range of Bradken’s
products have already been provided
directly out of Scunthorpe for customers
in Europe and the Commonwealth of
Independent States (CIS) and indirectly
for customers in North America and
Australia including Crawler Shoes,
Sprockets and Drag Chains, with
manufacturing to be further diversified in
2013 upon completion of all upgrades at
the site.
