Our foundry and machining facilities in London, Ontario Canada will earn Bradken a little claim to fame in motion picture history next year, supplying 84 structural castings for an exciting project in Los Angeles, California USA – The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
In late 2017 Bradken was awarded a contract with structural customer Cast Connex to supply castings in three different designs for the museum.
Our castings will be a visual highlight of the feature stair structures attached to the outside of the main theatre. In the event of an earthquake, they have been designed to protect the stair structures from damage by accommodating movement between the stairs, the building and the ground.
Our London foundry and machining facilities will be responsible for all aspects of this project, from creating the patterns and tooling, to casting and machining.
Some high-quality surface grinding will also be involved as they will be architecturally exposed parts viewable to the public. Delivery of these parts is expected in April 2018.
Currently under construction, the museum will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies and moviemaking.
The $515 million dollar (USD$388 million) project was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano.
Two separate buildings will form the museum’s 28,000 square-metre footprint. The former May Company Building will be renamed the Saban Building in recognition of a generous donation from Haim Saban (think the Power Rangers franchise) and his wife Cheryl and there’ll be a new spherical addition.
Together the buildings will include:
- 4,600 square-metres of gallery space
- two theatres
- cutting-edge project spaces
- an outdoor piazza
- a rooftop terrace covered by a glass dome with sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills
- an active education studio
- a restaurant and store.
