Five Townsville families affected by recent flooding in the region will soon be receiving a brand new Hitachi washing machine, thanks to the generosity of Bradken employees.
Money raised through an employee-initiated fundraising appeal and dollar-matched by the company has been used to purchase five Hitachi 10kg top load washing machines that will be distributed to families in need over the coming weeks.
Bradken Chief Executive Officer Simon Linge said he was glad to have had the opportunity to collaborate with another Hitachi Group Company in supporting the Townsville community.
“Supporting and contributing to the communities in which we operate has always been part of Bradken’s operating ethos, it’s in our DNA,” Mr Linge said.
“So naturally, in the wake of the recent flooding in Townsville, our employees wanted to do something to help. But we wanted to do more than just the usual fundraising barbeque.
“We reached out to our colleagues at Hitachi Australia with a proposal to use Bradken employee-donated funds to purchase new Hitachi appliances to donate, and they were only too happy to come on board.
“Our hope is that these items will help in some small way to lessen the worry of replacing what was lost during the devastating floods.
With the assistance of GIVIT Listed Ltd, a national not-for-profit that connects people with items to donate with people in need, Bradken was connected with a local charity partner to determine which appliances were most in need.
As a result, five Hitachi 10kg top load washing machines will be distributed over the next two weeks to those most heavily affected by flooding in the Townsville area.
Juliette Wright, Founder and Director of GIVIT thanked Bradken’s employees for their support.
“We want to thank the employees at Bradken for initiating this fundraising appeal,” Mrs Wright said.
“It is phenomenal to have the support of such incredibility thoughtful companies like Bradken and the Hitachi Group, who are providing support to our most affected families as they recover.”
