Bradken CEO Simon Linge will be rugging up and braving the cold to participate in the 2019 Vinnies CEO Sleepout and he’s encouraging as many people as possible to show their support.

Simon will join business and community leaders from organisations across the Newcastle and Hunter Valley region when they sleep out under the stars on 20 June at McDonald Jones Stadium.
“This is my first time participating in the CEO Sleepout,” he said.
“While I don’t know exactly what to expect I’m interested in challenging myself to get a better understanding of what those in our community experiencing homelessness go through.”
Simon’s motivation for being involved in the CEO Sleepout was drawn from the strong sense of community mindedness shared by his Bradken colleagues.
“Bradken people are good people, the kind of good people that are always thinking of ways to support the communities we operate in – it’s part of our company’s DNA.”
“Bradken has a connection to the Newcastle community that stretches back to the early 1920s with its founders, two BHP steelworks employees.
“Today Bradken employs about 150 people across Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, including hosting seven apprentices at our Mt Thorley manufacturing facility.”
Simon says he’s as ready as he’ll ever be for the event.
“Based on my research minimum temperatures for Newcastle in June average out around the nine degree mark but can get as low as three, so my thermals are packed and ready to go!”
Simon aims to raise $5,000 but is hopeful of exceeding this target through the generosity of his Bradken colleagues and the broader Newcastle community.
He says his ultimate goal is a simple one.
“I believe that a healthy and productive workplace can only come from a healthy society and that addressing fundamental issues like homelessness is a collective responsibility.
“If through my participation I can encourage other people to support this event, either through participation or donation, then it’s worthwhile.”
