Mount Thorley hosts visit from MIGAS leaders

Bradken's Mount Thorley Mining Services workshop recently hosted a visit from the leadership team from MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees, for a tour of the site and to witnessed firsthand how Bradken actively supports apprentices in learning their trade.

Darryl Pyne, Quality and Compliance Manger and long-time champion of Bradken’s apprenticeship program, said the visit reflected the strong and ongoing partnership between Bradken and MIGAS spanning more than 20 years.
“Bradken has operated in the Hunter Valley, at Mount Thorley, for about 30 years - we have a long history of innovation and excellence in engineering and manufacturing solutions in partnership with our mining customers,” Mr Pyne said.
“We also believe in building a sustainable future and helping support the education of future generations of skilled professionals in the communities we’re part of.
“That’s why we’re so proud to have partnered with MIGAS for the past two decades – in that time we’ve helped shape the careers of more than 70 apprentices who’ve honed their skills, learning from some of our most skilled tradespeople.”
MIGAS visitors had the opportunity to meet with seven of the current cohort of 11 Boilermaking apprentices hosted at Bradken Mount Thorley during their tour of the workshop. The group includes women and men (including a set of identical twins!), four of whom were existing Bradken employees taking the opportunity to upskill and gain new qualifications.
Expressing his appreciation, MIGAS Group CEO David Hoey said, “Directors don’t frequently have the opportunity to meet with apprentices at their worksite and we get a genuine thrill out of talking with them, learning about the personal stories and taking their feedback.
“We left our visit knowing that MIGAS apprentices placed with Bradken, and under their guidance, are safe, respected and treated as one of the crew.”
Thank you to Mr Hoey and the visiting MIGAS Board and team members: Carolyn Barker AM, James Slade-Symons, Rod Margetts, Melky Nainggolan, Dana Kennedy, Angela Matthews and Rennae Munro.
Bradken-hosted apprentice Boilermakers develop skills in light and heavy fabrication, and compliant welding to Australian and international standards, over the course of the four-year apprenticeship program.
