At Bradken, we're dedicated to preventing pollution and minimising the impacts our operations and products have on the environment in all regions where we work. We're improving our operational efficiency to optimise resource use, including energy, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste. By enhancing our manufacturing processes and investing in new technologies, we significantly reduce our environmental footprint and conserve natural resources.
Embracing the principles of the circular economy, Bradken strives to close the loop on raw material usage. We collaborate with customers to recycle end-of-life products, such as mill liners, into new products. Recycling steel scrap saves up to 74% of the energy needed to produce it from virgin materials, significantly reducing the need for iron ore, coal and limestone.
In addition to our carbon neutral 2030 goal, our sustainability initiatives include setting site-specific and group-level reduction targets for water consumption and waste generation. We have developed the Bradken Management System (BMS), integrating ISO 14001:2015, the environmental management system standard, into a unified management system across all Bradken sites. By submetering and monitoring high-water-consuming processes, we enhance our water conservation efforts.
Additionally, we seek opportunities for our generated wastes to become inputs for other industrial processes, promoting a circular economy. Our sand reclamation plants recycle sand used in moulding, further reducing waste and resource consumption.
Bradken is on a journey to become carbon neutral for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. We know it won’t be easy, but we have a roadmap to reach our targets.
