Bradken Recognized as Employer of Choice for Women
Bradken’s Edmonton manufacturing site in Alberta, Canada, has been recognized as an Employer of Choice by Women Building Futures (WBF), an organisation focused on encouraging and supporting women to pursue careers in trades and heavy equipment operation.
Dave Engler, Site Manager for Bradken in Edmonton, said with common values and a shared focus on eliminating gender biases and promoting equal opportunities for women, partnering with WBF was a natural fit.
“It’s an honour to receive this recognition by Women Building Futures – it’s a testament to our ongoing efforts to create a supportive and inclusive workplace where all employees can thrive and contribute uniquely to our success,” Mr Engler said.
Sean Winstone, Bradken CEO, echoed this sentiment and welcomed the partnership with WBF as a new source of skilled workers to help bolster the company’s growing needs.
“Like WBF, at Bradken we believe that gender stereotypes around career choices shouldn’t stop women from taking on non-conventional roles and excelling,” Mr Winstone said.
“We’re excited to welcome new voices to our team in Edmonton through this partnership and look forward to helping them learn and grow in a supportive and flexible environment.
“Together, we’ll continue to break down barriers and champion diversity in our industry, paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable and more inclusive future for all.”
About Women Building Futures
For the past 25 years WBF has connected unemployed women, or women working multiple low-paying jobs in the Alberta region, with opportunities to find financial independence through careers in the trades - a workforce in which they are typically underrepresented.
Their initiatives specifically target common barriers such as employment training, access to affordable housing, academic and personal readiness and access to affordable childcare.
For employers to be recognized as a WBF Employer of Choice, they must meet a minimum score on an assessment which reviews their internal practices in four main values: Health and Safety, Respect and Inclusion, Equity and Gender, and Growth and Advancement.
